Beam Freeform Fabrication uses electrons to create objects

Taking a leap beyond the conventional methods of using 3D manufacturing, scientists at NASA have used electron beam to melt raw materials inside a vacuum chamber. Dubbed the Beam Freeform Fabrication (EBF3), this new method is an exciting electron beam fabrication system capable of creating any object. The eco-friendly system seems one plucked straight out of science fiction of sorts with its capability to uses lesser electricity to create similar parts done with the traditional manufacturing. Because the electrons can be simply beamed to create any mechanical part for a small fraction of the cost, there are varying commercial application the technique can be possibly used for.
