13 Pieces of Wood and 2 Bits of Rope

What do the ingredients in the title make? A table! At least in Aïssa Logerot’s world they do. I might be mistaken on the number of bits of wood, but the equation remains the same: a completely enjoyable build-it-yourself table made from simple, visible parts. Lots of people get down on IKEA for creating low-quality, oversimplified designs, but I say no! The best part is being able to build it yourself, and easily!

Logerot’s on this same tip.

But let’s not tie Logerot to tightly with IKEA now, because this is no Swiss Swedish, miss! This is a French work of design, straight out of Paris. With the cord ye shall tie the table down, and with the cord thou shalt be able to adjust the table with time.

Yes, the table sits in a non-fixed state. The table can be lengthened and extended, tightened and shortened. This kit folds flat, and oh did I mention you can make it into a shelf, a stool, and a seat besides?

Same pieces!

Kinda like Lincoln Logs or K’NEX or Legos, ey?

Solar Filtering, It Works!

As proven by my 4th grade science project, adequate sun exposure will in fact, disinfect standing water. Now give me money. UV filtration isn’t new. People do it all over the world. What the SODIS does better is provide long-term durability and viability. The briefcase-like water jug is made of  a high tech material which resists scratching. Scratches inhibit proper UV filtration which means jugs have to be replaced and as we know, the people who use devices like these can’t exactly do that.

Let me tell you why I like this concept. First, someone thought enough to put a 6 liter jug into a briefcase making it much easier to transport. They thought enough to choose a material that can resist scratches better than cheap plastics. Thirdly they’ve done the research and figured out it will only cost $2 to manufacture these life saving water vessels. Kudos to the designer Samuel Rock. Nice name man.

Now give me money.

Better than Skates or Skateboards; It’s Even Got Breaks

It’s not a half-baked attempt to tout a new Segway and neither is it replacing the rollerblades; StepGlider is in a league of its own. Using the natural swagger of us humans as its inspiration, this new kind of travel mode guarantees stability as it causes a linear locomotion which gives us a sense of safety. As Thomas describes it, “The momentum is caused by the correlation between walking and a force among the hands and a gearbox, through which an accelerated movement is obtained.”

You can’t expect the older generation adopting StepGlider, but the weary middle-age folks may find it a fascinating ride. It is a comforting thought to know that it has a breaking system in place and all you need to practice is your natural walk, for it to glide. Check out the video that makes this mode of transportation an easy breeze.
